American Airlines gets approval to start New York-Tokyo Haneda service

American Airlines said it received tentative approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin nonstop service between New York JFK and Tokyo Haneda Airport. 

American will be the only U.S. carrier operating service between JFK and Tokyo Haneda, complementing existing service operated by joint-venture partner Japan Airlines.

AA said it will begin the service in the coming months. It will be American's fourth daily nonstop flight to Haneda, joining existing daily service from Dallas/Fort Worth and twice-daily flights from Los Angeles.
