Avelo Airlines will soon become the first carrier to serve central Florida's Lakeland Airport in more than a decade.
The discount carrier on June 13 will launch twice-weekly service between Lakeland and New Haven, Conn.
Lakeland Airport is located 42 miles southwest of Disney World and 33 miles east of downtown Tampa. No airline has offered scheduled service there since Myrtle Beach, S.C.-based Direct Air collapsed in 2012, Cirium flight schedule data shows.
Avelo's New Haven base is 82 miles northeast of Manhattan.
