Bahamasair to suspend Nassau-Andros service

NEW YORK -- Bahamian flag carrier Bahamasair temporarily will suspend service from Nassau to three Andros Island airports as of Sept. 6, while it looks to subcontract the inter-island routes to a partner airline.

The airline removed destinations Andros Town, San Andros and South Andros, also known as Congo Town, from its GDS and online Web booking site at www.bahamasair.com in mid-August but expects to restore booking capabilities for the Andros Island airports within the next 45 days, said Tyrone Sawyer, director of international sales.

"We're doing a tender for subservice in order to meet a wider strategy, which is to enhance the access of customers to all points on Bahamasair's domestic network through our Nassau hub, but in a way where we maintain our branding, and maintain or enhance the service quality," he said.

Meanwhile, competing airline Western Air continues to serve the three affected airports, as well as a fourth Andros destination, Mangrove Cay, from Nassau.
