Commercial service has begun at Paine Field.

Alaska Airlines regional operator Horizon Air kicked off a new era for the Seattle-area airport with a takeoff on Monday at 10:03 a.m. of Flight 2878 bound for Portland. Twenty-seven minutes later, an Alaska regional jet departed Paine Field for Las Vegas.

By mid-March, Alaska will operate 18 daily flights from Paine Field.

United Airlines will begin six flights a day from the airport on March 31.

Paine's introduction of commercial service coincides with the opening of a new two-gate terminal.

The airport is located near the city of Everett, 38 miles north of the Seattle area's primary airport, Sea-Tac.
