Delta will begin flying between Los Angeles and Melbourne next winter.

The thrice-weekly service will launch Dec. 3 and be Delta's third Australia route, joining year-round LAX-Sydney and seasonal LAX-Brisbane flights.

Delta will operate the route with an Airbus A350-900 with business, premium economy and economy cabins. The airline will compete with United and Qantas on the LAX-Melbourne route.

Delta's service means that each of the three major airline alliances will fly between Los Angeles and Melbourne. Delta is in SkyTeam, Qantas in Oneworld and United the Star Alliance.
