Carib Aviation, based in Antigua, launched
a new service called Dominica Air Taxi, which offers daily
roundtrip flights between Dominica and Antigua and daily (except
Saturdays) flights between Dominica and St. Lucia for a total of 44
flights per week.
The flights are
aboard 19-seat twin otter turboprops and all arrive at Dominicas
Canefield Airport, 10 minutes from downtown Roseau. Most of
Dominicas international flights use the Melville Hall Airport in
Marigot, a two-hour, cross-island drive from Roseau.
Dominica Air Taxi
flights are priced at $79 one way, not including taxes and
fees.
From Antigua to
Dominica, the 40-minute flights depart weekdays at 5:30 a.m.; at
11:30 a.m. on Sundays; at 2:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays; and at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and
Sundays.
The return
flights from Dominica to Antigua depart weekdays at 8:50 a.m.; at 3
p.m. on Sundays; and at 5:50 p.m. daily.
Meanwhile, the
St. Lucia flights from Castries depart weekdays at 7:45 a.m.; at
1:55 p.m. on Sundays; and at 4:45 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays.
Return flights
from Dominica to St. Lucia operate weekdays at 6:35 p.m.; at 12:35
p.m. Sundays; and at 3:35 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays.
Yvor Nassief,
Dominicas minister of tourism, said that the flights will offer
travelers more flexibility in planning their trips to Dominica.
With the increased attention that were receiving as a result of the
recent Pirates of the Caribbean Disney movie and strong interest
among travelers to visit the movies filming locations, this
development could not have come at a more opportune
time.
