United Airlines has confirmed that it will drop service to eight cities within its United Express regional network at the start of the new year.
The eight destinations are Kalamazoo and Lansing, Mich.; College Station and Killeen, Texas; Columbia, Mo; Wausau, Wis; Evansville, Ind.; and Monroe, La.
Those routes, the carrier said, are not sustainable for the long-term.

"[M]any different factors determine a successful route and our decisions include careful evaluation of our overall network, fleet, resources at our regional partners and yields," United spokesman Charles Hobart explained.
United Express will also stop marketing flights out of Pierre and Watertown in South Dakota and Twin Falls, Idaho, according to media accounts, which are supported by Cirium flight schedule data.
The moves will leave American as the lone airline in Columbia, College Station, Killeen and Monroe. Twin Falls will have only a lone Delta route to Salt Lake City. And the two South Dakota cities will be served only by the regional carrier Denver Air Connection.
Kalamazoo, Evansville, Lansing and Wausau will continue to be served by at least two airlines.
