Etihad Airways plans to launch daily service between Washington Dulles and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on March 31, 2013, pending regulatory approval.

The nonstop route will be flown using three-class Airbus A340-500 aircraft.

The 240-passenger widebody planes will offer 12 first-class, 28 business-class and 200 economy seats.

“No other UAE carrier is offering nonstop services between D.C. and the UAE, so this capital-to-capital link is a huge opportunity for Etihad,” said Etihad CEO James Hogan.

United Airlines flies nonstop between Washington and Dubai.

Washington will be the fourth North American destination for Etihad, which already serves Chicago, New York and Toronto.
