A new Frontier Airlines promotion is throwing shade at Southwest, which announced last week that checked bags would no longer fly free.
The promotion enables flyers to include a checked bag and a carry-on bag when they buy Frontier's basic fare on nonstop routes.
"Breaking up with your old airline? We're here for you," reads Frontier marketing material for the promotion.
The deal requires the promo code FREEBAG and applies to flights from May 28 through Aug. 18. Customers must book direct by March 24.
The May 28 date is no coincidence; it's the same day that Southwest will implement checked-bag fees for new bookings.
Playing off of Southwest's heart-shaped logo and its common messaging around love (the airline's stock symbol is LUV), Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said, "We've always had heart. Some airlines are walking away from what travelers love, but we're running towards it."
Biffle said Frontier could make the promotion permanent if it is successful enough.
