Dallas Fort Worth Airport, in partnership with American Airlines, opened nine gates in Terminal C.
A new Terminal C pier includes five rebuilt gates and four expansion gates. The gates are the first to open under the $12 billion DFW Forward capital improvement program, which will involve more than 180 construction projects across the airport through 2029.
The nine gates are all equipped with electronic boarding technology, which validate boarding passes without agent assistance and also regulate the pace of boarding. American said the gates are the first operated by a network U.S. carrier to offer electronic boarding at scale.
The Terminal C pier also has expanded seating areas, power stations and new concessions.
A similar pier expansion in DFW's Terminal A, which will include five new gates and five gate rebuilds, is scheduled for completion later this year.
Terminal C is American's busiest terminal at DFW, averaging nearly 200 departures per day.
