Icelandic airline Play has ceased operations. All fights were abruptly canceled beginning Sunday, Sept. 28.

The airline advised customers to check flights with other airlines and to contact their credit card issuer for a refund or to contact their travel advisor for assistance.

Play had been flying just one U.S. route, Baltimore-Reykjavik, which had been slated to end on Oct. 24 as part of a downsizing effort that Play hoped could keep it solvent.

The Icelandic discounter began U.S. service in April 2022 and peaked its U.S. operation in the summers of 2023 and 2024, with four daily routes to Reykjavik. Schedules on those routes from Baltimore, Washington Dulles, Boston and New York Stewart (about 70 miles north of Manhattan) had been optimized for connecting flights to Europe destinations.
