Beginning this week, flyers can book United or JetBlue flights on the apps and websites of either carrier, and the airlines are allowing purchases with United MileagePlus points or JetBlue TrueBlue points.

The roll-out is the second implementation of the airlines' Blue Sky partnership, which began in October with reciprocity for loyalty point accrual and redemption. For now, flyers still can't book multi-airline itineraries on United and JetBlue, but the airlines eventually plan to offer interline flying.

Next for the partnership, the airlines said, will be the implementation in the spring of reciprocal perks and benefits for status members of each loyalty program, such as priority boarding, preferred and extra-legroom seating, and same-day standby and flight changes.

Then, in 2027, JetBlue will begin leasing up to seven daily departure and landing slots to United at New York's JFK Airport, opening the door for United to restart operations there.
