Kenyan air carriers are now eligible to fly to the U.S.

On Monday, the FAA said that Kenya’s civil aviation authority complies with international aviation safety standards. As such, the country has earned a Category 1 rating under the International Aviation Safety Assessment program.

The decision was based on a review this month of Kenya’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the FAA said.

With Kenya’s Category 1 status, Kenyan airlines can apply for FAA and DOT approval to fly to the U.S. and to codeshare with U.S. airlines.

Kenya Airways had previously expressed an interest in launching U.S. service.
