Lufthansa Group is making a nonbinding offer to acquire
Thomas Cook's German airline, Condor, the airline group announced.
The offer also includes an option to buy Thomas Cook's other
airlines, though Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said it's unlikely any single
airline group could acquire all the company's airlines, due to antitrust
regulations, Reuters reported.
Thomas Cook said earlier this year that it would consider selling its airlines.
Thomas Cook has airlines based in Manchester, U.K.;
Copenhagen, Denmark; and Mallorca, Spain, in addition to Condor. While its
airlines are largely leisure carriers, Condor in recent years has targeted
business travelers with business-class product upgrades.
Condor flies to several U.S. cities, including Baltimore, Seattle, San Diego, Las Vegas and Austin.
