DALLAS -- Albert Casey, 84, former chairman and CEO of American
Airlines, died July 10 at his home here.
Casey retired as chairman in 1985, after 11 years as leader of
the airline and its parent company, AMR Corp.
Gerard Arpey, American's chairman and CEO, said Casey "guided
American through the early days of deregulation and built it into
one of the world's preeminent airlines."
Also during his tenure, Casey moved American's headquarters from
New York to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1979.
Prior to joining American, Casey was president of the Times
Mirror Co. in Los Angeles from 1966 to 1974. From 1991 to 1993 he
headed the Resolution Trust Corp., established by Congress in 1989
to liquidate assets of failed savings-and-loan associations.
President Ronald Reagan appointed him U.S. postmaster general in
1996.
