Porter Airlines will take on heavyweights Delta, American and Air Canada when it begins flying between Toronto and New York LaGuardia.

Starting May 1, the Canadian carrier will fly between Toronto Pearson Airport and LaGuardia. The service will operate three times per day on weekdays and twice daily on weekends. Porter will fly single-cabin Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. The 132-seat planes have two seats on each side of the aisle.

Porter's bigger competitors fly between LaGuardia and Toronto at least five times daily. Market behemoth Air Canada operates 11 roundtrips per day.

For Porter, the route will complement its service between Newark and Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, which Porter operates nine times daily.
