Southwest will stop allowing emotional support animals (ESAs) onboard flights beginning March 1.
The carrier will continue to allow trained service dogs to travel free of charge.
Southwest customers with ESAs who hold reservations for travel on March 1 and beyond should contact the airline for further assistance.
Southwest joins other large carriers, including American, Delta, United, Alaska and JetBlue in refusing to permit ESAs on flights. The changes have followed the DOT's issuance last month of a final rule eliminating the requirement that airlines accept the support animals.
