United Airlines will return to Venezuela in August.

Daily service between George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Caracas will begin Aug. 11 for Venezuela-bound flights and Aug. 12 for U.S.-bound flights. United previously served Venezuela for more than 20 years, but suspended service there in June 2017.

The airline will operate the route with Boeing 737 Max 8 narrowbody aircraft.

United will join American, which became the first carrier to resume service between the two countries on April 30. The U.S. capture of the former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro set the stage for the Department of Transportation to lift a ban on U.S.-Venezuela flights that had been in place since May 2019.

American is flying daily between Miami and Caracas.

United said the new route will serve business travelers as well as Venezuelan ex-pats visiting friends and families. Texas and Venezuela are both major oil industry regions.
