United Airlines will add service this summer to Croatia, Greece and Iceland as the carrier focuses more of its transatlantic flying on countries that are easing travel restrictions.

United will fly between Newark and Dubrovnik, Croatia, three-times weekly from July 8 through Oct. 3, making it the only carrier currently slated to serve the U.S.-Croatia market nonstop. The coastal Balkan nation has already begun allowing vaccinated U.S. travelers to visit.

United will expand its Greece service with daily flights from Washington Dulles to Athens running between July 1 and Oct. 3. The flights will accompany United's resumption of seasonal daily Newark-Athens service on June 3. Greece is reopening its borders for the first time during the pandemic to U.S. travelers who are vaccinated, can show proof of having had Covid-19 or show a negative Covid-19 test.

Iceland is also open to vaccinated U.S. tourists. United will fly daily between Chicago and Reykjavik from July 1 through Oct. 3, competing on the route with Icelandair. The flight will accompany United's daily Newark-Reykjavik service, which is set to resume June 3.

United's Iceland routes will join a dozen resuming or new U.S.-Iceland routes that have been scheduled for this summer by Icelandair and Delta.

Other airlines are also moving transatlantic capacity to destinations that are beginning to reopen. American, for example, begins seasonal JFK- Athens service on June 2. The carrier also will begin JFK-Tel Aviv flights next month. Israel plans to open to U.S. group travel in late May.
