Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier Volaris will begin charging for the first checked bag on flights to the U.S. on March 1, it announced Friday.

Volaris said it is making the move, "in accordance with international trends and with the goal of being more competitive and further lowering the price of base fares."

Volaris will charge $15 if customers pay for the bag upon booking, $18 dollars if they pay for it after booking but before reaching the airport and $20 at the airport.

Volaris currently offers flights to Mexico from 23 U.S. airports and will add Milwaukee to its network on March 2.
