Japan Airlines (JAL) will begin flying between Tokyo Narita and Chicago O'Hare on May 31. The airline also will increase lift from other U.S. cities to Japan, which is red-hot as a tourist destination.

The Tokyo Narita-Chicago route, which the carrier last operated in March 2023, will augment JAL's existing daily service between Tokyo Haneda and O'Hare.

JAL will compete with All Nippon Airways' O'Hare-Narita service. It already competes against ANA and United on the Chicago-Haneda city pair, Cirium flight schedule data shows.

JAL will codeshare with American Airlines on the Narita-O'Hare route. Tickets go on sale Feb. 12. The carrier did not reveal the aircraft type it will use on the route.

JAL also said that it will increase frequencies this summer on its service between Narita and San Diego and between Osaka and both Los Angeles and Honolulu. Though JAL wasn't specific, Cirium data shows that those routes will go to daily beginning in April.
