LONE WOLF, Okla. -- Quartz Mountain Resort and Conference Center
here opened its doors.
The resort, located at Quartz Mountain State Park in southwest
Oklahoma's Wichita Mountains, features 118 rooms and one- and
two-bedroom cabins.
Meeting facilities range from conference rooms to performing
arts pavilions and a 700-seat amphitheater.
Quartz Mountain Resort replaces Quartz Mountain Lodge, built in
the late 1950s but destroyed by fire in 1995.
The resort, which overlooks Lake Altus-Lugert, was rebuilt and
expanded at a cost of $12.2 million by the state-owned Oklahoma
City Tourism and Recreation Department. It is managed by Interstate
Hotels.
The Oklahoma Arts Institute has loaned the resort a $2 million
collection of 300 works of art, and will hold its annual Summer Art
Institute at the resort in June.
The 10,000-acre Quartz Mountain State Park features an 18-hole
golf course, camping areas, water sports, hiking trails and a
nature center.
