David Cummins has been sworn in as the eighth administrator of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration following his U.S. Senate confirmation.
Cummins will lead a workforce of about 60,000 employees and the security operations at more than 430 airports across the country, according to TSA. Under the direction of the Department of Homeland Security secretary Markwayne Mullin, Cummins also has federal responsibility for the security of the U.S.'s surface transportation, including rail, mass transit systems, highways, pipelines and maritime.
Most recently, Cummins was senior vice president of citizen services at Serco, a government services contractor. "He has overseen strategy and acquisitions for transportation systems across 30 countries," according to TSA. Cummins also was the director of operations management for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Cummins succeeds Ha Nguyen McNeill, who had served as the acting administrator since April 2025. The last confirmed TSA administrator was David Pekoske, who served from August 2017 to January 2025. He was removed from the position when President Trump took office for his second term.
