The JW
Marriott in downtown Los Angeles, which is part of the L.A. Live entertainment-retail complex, will be
expanded by an additional 755 rooms at a site across the street that
previously was earmarked for a Renaissance hotel.
A $500 million,
38-story tower will be connected to the 878-room JW Marriott the adjoining 123-room Ritz-Carlton via two pedestrian bridges over Olympic
Boulevard. The new tower is slated to open in 2018. Combined, the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton (both are Marriott International brands) will have 1,756 rooms and
more than 200,000 square feet of meeting space.
L.A. Live developer AEG decided not to sell the property to Williams/Dame & Associates, which was going to build a 450-room Renaissance hotel. Williams/Dame &
Associates developed the property just east of the JW Marriott expansion site
into a 393-room dual-branded Courtyard/Residence Inn that opened last year.
AEG
opened the JW Marriott/Ritz-Carlton in 2001.
