The company this week released a rendering of what the castle will look like when the work is complete. Its turrets will be a bolder blue color, and the upper portion of the castle will feature a pink hue. Gold elements will be used throughout the building to highlight architectural features.

In a post on the Disney Parks Blog, Jason Kirk, vice president of the Magic Kingdom, called the makeover "bold" and "shimmering."

Work will begin in the coming weeks and will continue throughout the summer. Disney said its stage and nighttime shows that take place on and around the castle will continue as scheduled.

Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., underwent a refurbishment last year, and now features similarly bold colors.
