Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, the second of the two planned attractions at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, will open at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando on Dec. 5 and at Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., on Jan. 17.
Disney announced the opening dates on Thursday. The Dec. 5 opening in Disney World coincides with Walt Disney's birthday.
The attraction will put riders in the middle of a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. First, they'll be recruited to join Rey and General Leia Organa at a secret base. From there, they will get captured by a First Order Star Destroyer, from which they will have to escape and protect the secret base.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has called Rise of the Resistance the "most technologically advanced and immersive attraction that we have ever imagined."
"No one has ever attempted anything of this magnitude, and so it's somewhat daunting, even by our standards," he said.
Galaxy's Edge is Disney's 14-acre Star Wars-themed land in Disneyland and Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios. The land has been open in Disneyland since May and will open in Hollywood Studios on Aug. 29. Opening day at both parks includes the land's merchandise and food and beverage offerings as well as one attraction, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
