Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open in Disneyland Resort in
Anaheim, Calif., on May 31 and in Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando on Aug.
29.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the opening dates of the
highly-anticipated park areas during the Walt Disney Co.'s annual shareholder
meeting Thursday.
Iger called the Star Wars-themed areas "by far, the
largest lands that we have ever built."
"The excitement and the anticipation for these lands is
just unbelievable," he said.
Iger said Galaxy's Edge will open in two phases. On opening
day, guests will be able to experience its "Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's
Run" ride, enabling them to take the controls of the iconic spaceship from
the Star Wars franchise. Dining, shopping and character experiences will also
be open.
Later in the year, Iger said, guests will be able to
experience "Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance," which he called the "most
technologically advanced and immersive attraction that we have ever imagined."
"No one has ever attempted anything of this magnitude,
and so it's somewhat daunting, even by our standards," Iger said.
According to a post on Disney Parks Blog,
Disneyland guests must "make a no-cost reservation, subject to
availability" to visit Galaxy's Edge between May 31 and June 23. Those
staying at a Disneyland hotel will receive a reservation to enter the area, one
per guest, during their stay with a valid theme park ticket.
Reservations will not be required at Disney World.
