Beginning in August, Southern California's Disneyland Hotel will begin what Disney is calling "a significant renovation project" that will include revamping guestrooms and updating the hotel's exterior.
The hotel will remain open during the renovation, which will be conducted in phases and is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
After the renovations are completed, all three of the hotel's towers -- the Magic, Wonder and Dreams -- will feature large windows with a blue tint that will replace the current sliding doors and faux balcony railings.
Construction will take place in one vertical half of a tower at a time, with the remaining rooms in the tower open for guests during construction. The Dreams tower will be the first to be renovated and is scheduled to be completed in June 2010.
Disneyland Hotel's renovated guestrooms will given a new contemporary look, including beds with a headboard that features a representation of Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. The renovated rooms will also feature black and white Disneyland-themed art, new flat screen TVs, mini-refrigerators, coffeemakers, safes, a telephone and cable and wireless Internet connections.
The hotel, built in 1955, will also get upgrades to plumbing, electrical and heating and air conditioning systems.
The large, blue-tinted windows will also be more energy-efficient with double-paned glass and greater reflection. Installing occupancy sensors, low-flow toilets, energy efficient lights and using paint low in volatile organic compounds are other green measures being implemented during the renovation process.
The Disneyland Hotel renovation is a part of a larger expansion project underway throughout Disney's Southern California properties.
Disney's California Adventure Park is undergoing a multiyear expansion that includes new experiences and attractions, culminating in 2012 with the opening of a brand new land: Cars Land.
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa also is undergoing an expansion, adding 200 hotel rooms and 50 two-bedroom villas that are part of the Disney Vacation Club, which will make its West Coast debut when it opens this fall.
