Moon Palace Jamaica lobbyThe Moon Palace Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios, the former 730-room Sunset Jamaica Grande, will open in early 2015, following a $50 million renovation that begins Sept. 1.

Palace Resorts on July 17 acquired the property, its first outside of Mexico, where the company owns and operates seven resorts.

"The beauty of Ocho Rios, combined with the appeal of this iconic property, provided a launching pad for the next chapter in Palace Resorts' story," said Gibran Chapur, executive vice president.

The company plans to expand to more Caribbean destinations, according to Sandor Winkler, chief development officer.

Renovations to the Jamaica resort will touch guestrooms and public areas, including five restaurants. Palace Resorts is adding a FlowRider Double Wave simulator and the Wired Teen lounge.

The resort also will feature a nightclub for adults, a kids' club dubbed the Playroom, 24-hour room service and the 35,000-square-foot Awe Spa and gym.
