Hawaii's Ihilani Resort and Spa is renamed

Marriott International has renamed the former Ihilani Resort and Spa the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa at Ko Olina.

Marriott took over management of the Hawaii property after it was sold in October.

The resort sits by itself on the west coast of Oahu, far from the major cluster of hotels in Waikiki.

The hotel will finish 1999 with an occupancy rate of about 53%, according to new Marriott manager John Homer.

Japan Airlines Hotels owned the 387-room Ihilani since 1993. It was sold to Hawaii-based Ko Olina Co. and insurance company MassMutual in October.

The Ko Olina Co. also owns the Ko Olina Resort and Marina, a vacation development adjacent to the Ihilani, and the Ko Olina Golf Club.
