Hong Kong hotel quarantined, guest diagnosed with swine flu

Hong Kong’s first confirmed case of the H1N1 swine flu is a Mexican tourist who stayed at the Metropark Hotel, according to an Associated Press report.

Hong Kong’s government on Friday ordered a weeklong quarantine of the Metropark, where approximately 200 guests are staying and 100 employees work. The quarantined guests will be given the drug Tamiflu.

The infected tourist has been isolated in a hospital and is in stable condition, the AP reported. The 25-year-old man flew to Hong Kong via Shanghai on China Eastern Airlines and developed a fever after arriving in Hong Kong on Thursday afternoon, the AP said.

Two others who were traveling with the Mexican tourist and a friend he came into contact with during his stay have also been isolated in a hospital but have not shown symptoms of illness, according to York Chow, Hong Kong’s secretary of food and health.
