Accor is bringing its Hyde Hotel & Residences brand to Mexico, announcing plans for a newbuild property on Mazatlan's Zona Dorada.

The arrival of the brand in the Pacific Coast destination is seen as another milestone for Mazatlan as it continues to invest millions in its tourism infrastructure.

The 75,277-square-foot, beachfront property will break ground in 2021, with an expected opening date in late 2023.

The 150-room lifestyle resort will have a range of accommodations options for leisure and business travelers, including 23 suites. As the name implies, the property will also have a residential component consisting of 50 one-, two-, and three-bedroom units.

In addition to 300 feet of private beach access, the property will have an oceanfront pool, a spa and fitness facility, a retail boutique and five dining outlets.

Mazatlan, while certainly a well-known beach destination in Mexico, is not typically a first choice for hotel companies when selecting a place to make their debut south of the border (El Cid is the only other brand to debut there). But the owner of the Hyde is the Daniel Cardenas Family, an international agriculture company that is based in the state of Sinaloa, home to Mazatlan.

In addition to the new Hyde Hotel, Mazatlan is expecting hotels by Fiesta Americana, Marriott and Holiday Inn.

The introduction of the resort is in line with a growth strategy that Mazatlan has been working on for the past few years; the city has been pouring millions of dollars to improve its Centro Historico, Malecon, parks, monuments and more. The opening of the resort creates 210 jobs for the people of Mazatlan.

A 32.5-acre Parque Central is in development, expected to open late this year. It will contain two playgrounds, two spaces for concerts, areas for food trucks, a saltwater lake with marine life and the 3.4-acre Sea of Cortez Aquarium. A 660,000-gallon oceanic tank and an IMAX theater will be top attractions at the aquarium.
