MGM Resorts, which last month announced plans for a 20,000-seat arena on the Las Vegas Strip, said it is updating the frontage to two hotels adjacent to the arena site.
MGM is adding a plaza that will include a Hershey’s retail store, a roadhouse concept from restaurant operator SBE, and an outlet of the New York-based Shake Shack burger restaurant.
The entry to the Monte Carlo Resort on the north side of the arena site will be replaced by SBE’s Double Barrel restaurant, while an updated entrance to the New York-New York hotel to the south will include a two-story Hershey’s Chocolate World store.
An outlet of Shake Shack, the burger concept created by New York restaurateur Danny Meyer, will be part of the park between the two hotels that will be fronting the arena.
The project is slated to break ground within a few weeks and will be completed early next year, MGM said.
“Our vision is to extend the excitement we traditionally create within our world-class resorts outside onto The Strip, and ultimately in an entertainment district leading to our new arena,” MGM Resorts CEO Jim Murren said in a statement. “To bring that vision to fruition, we have assembled a team recognized around the world for creating special venues and places.”
MGM and partner Anschutz Entertainment Group last month announced the development of a 20,000-seat indoor arena to be located on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard near the southern end of the Strip. The companies estimate a 2016 opening.
