Ritz-Carlton begins construction on Turks and Caicos resort

Construction is under way at Ritz-Carltons 125-suite boutique resort on the uninhabited island of West Caicos, a 20-minute boat ride from Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos. The property will be called Molasses Reef, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and also will include 60 Ritz-Carlton-branded residential villas.

More than 50% of phase one of the villas has already been sold, according to Logwood Hotel Development Co., the developers. Completion of the resort, its two restaurants and a spa, as well as 30 villas and the marina is set for early 2008.

In addition to the resort and residential villa community, the site, which is called West Caicos Reserve, will include two national parks with a protected wildlife reserve and archaeological and cultural sites. On-island transportation will be by electric vehicles and bicycles.

A Web site with information is located at www.westcaicosreserve.com.
