CANNES, France — Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will take over management of the iconic Hotel de Crillon in Paris when the property reopens in 2015 following a two-year renovation.
It's the luxury hotelier's latest step toward doubling its global presence within the next five years.
Rosewood Hotels spokesman Brett Perkins made the announcement at the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) conference here last week. He declined to say how much the company will spend on the renovation of the hotel, which was previously operated by Concorde Hotels & Resorts.
Located on Place de la Concorde, the 147-room hotel occupies a structure that dates from 1758 and has operated as a hotel for more than a century.
Rosewood opened the Rosewood London, its only Europe hotel to date, in October. That 306-room property, which occupies a 1914 Edwardian Belle Epoque building, cost 85 million pounds ($139 million) to reopen. Rosewood had previously operated London's Lanesborough, a property that was reflagged under Starwood Hotels & Resorts' St. Regis badge in 2001.
"In terms of putting Rosewood back on the map in Europe, you couldn't get a better property than this," Perkins said of the Hotel de Crillon.
The management contract pushes Rosewood that much closer to reaching a goal the company set in September to double its global presence within the next five years. That same month, Rosewood, which operates 18 hotels worldwide and has offices in both Dallas and Hong Kong, launched a rebranding effort as well as a new website.
Rosewood, which opened its Abu Dhabi property in October, will open its first property in Asia, the 279-room Rosewood Beijing, early next year. Since May, the company has also announced hotels slated for Indonesia; Chong-qing, China; and Bangkok.
Located at the foot of the Champs-Elysees, Hotel de Crillon opened in 1758 as a government building. Two decades later, it was the site where U.S. and French dignitaries signed documents recognizing the Declaration of Independence. The building opened as a hotel in 1909.
