The historic Huntington Hotel, atop Nob Hill in San Francisco, will reopen in May as the Scarlet Huntington after completing a $15 million renovation.
Property owner Grace International closed the 135-room hotel in January to complete the upgrades.
Singapore-based Grace International (unaffiliated with Grace Hotels) also operates the 80-room Scarlet Hotel in Singapore. The company bought the Huntington in late 2011.
Nob Hill’s historic hotels continue to receive investment and renovations, as increased demand pushes up San Francisco room rates. Among the largest 25 U.S. markets, only Nashville’s growth in revenue per available room (RevPAR) was better than San Francisco-San Mateo’s 13% in 2013, according to research firm STR.
Woodridge Capital Partners and Oaktree Capital Management, which acquired Nob Hill’s Fairmont San Francisco in 2012, said last month that they were buying the nearby 383-room Mark Hopkins for $120 million and will invest another $20 million upgrading the 88-year-old property.
Woodbridge and Oaktree paid about $200 million for the 591-room Fairmont.
Also on Nob Hill, the Stanford Court said last December that it would undergo enhancements such as a lobby upgrade, technological improvements and new art installations in 2014.
The Scarlet Huntington, which opened as a luxury apartment building in 1922, includes the Big 4 Restaurant. Big 4 refers to the California railroad magnates (Leland Stanford, Collis Huntington, Mark Hopkins and Charles Crocker) who once lived in mansions atop Nob Hill.
