Sandals Grande Antigua Resort & Spa officially unveiled its 180-suite, $70 million Mediterranean Village during a three-day grand opening celebration being held Oct. 4 to 7.

Attendees included celebrities, entertainers, government officials and industry partners; the event was hosted by Gordon "Butch" Stewart, Sandals Resorts' chairman.

Grammy winners Shaggy and Sean Paul, soca superstar Alison Hinds, Jamaican group Rootz Underground and Hollywood spindoctor DJ Splyce provided live entertainment on Dickinson Bay Beach and poolside under the stars.

The new village expansion, designed to complement the existing 193-room Caribbean Village, includes a sixth freshwater pool, complete with a signature Sandals pool tower, swimup bar and whirlpool (both the pool and whirlpool reportedly are the largest in the eastern Caribbean); and poolside cabanas that offer Wi-Fi access.

The oceanview suites, available in six categories with the top two offering Sandals Butler Service, feature marble bathrooms with his and her vanities, mosaic tiling, Jacuzzi tubs for two, and overhead rain showers; oversize beds; 42-inch plasma-screen TVs; Internet access (for a fee), and additional seating areas.

Sandals Grande Antigua now offers a total of nine restaurants, including the Cricketer's Arms Pub; six pools; an expanded Red Lane Spa; more than 10,000 square feet of meetings space; and a private wedding gazebo. The property also features a 3,200-square-foot retail shopping village with an art gallery featuring the works of local and international artists.
