Sandals
Resorts International has sold the Grand Pineapple Beach Antigua to Elite
Island Resorts, effective May 30.
The
180-room resort at Long Bay will continue to accept bookings and will
remain open as it transitions to its former name, Pineapple Beach Club, on
June 1 under Elite Island's ownership.
All
current resort staff will remain in place under the new management team. Guests
with bookings for arrivals after May 30 will be protected at the agreed-upon
rate by Elite.
In 2008, Sandals introduced Grand Pineapple Beach, a value brand, renaming resorts in Antigua and Jamaica with the launch. The Grand Pineapple Negril remains Sandals-owned and will not be affected by the sale of the Antigua property, Sandals said.
In December 2013, Sandals said it was planning to overhaul and rebrand the Grand Pineapple Beach Antigua as a Beaches resort, but those plans never materialized.
Elite
Island Resorts’ portfolio includes seven properties on five islands, three of
which are on Antigua.
