The hotel boom in downtown Los Angeles continues, with Starwood’s
luxury lifestyle brand W Hotels planning to open a property there in early
2019.
The W Los Angeles Downtown will be part of a mixed-use
project being developed by Shenzhen Hazens Real Estate Group across the street
from Staples Center and the L.A. Live entertainment-retail district.
The hotel will have 250 guestrooms, 15,000 square feet of
meeting space and a 5,000-square-foot spa.
W already has hotels in the Hollywood and Westwood
neighborhoods.
The W will join a raft of properties under construction or
expansion near L.A. Live in the southern part of downtown Los Angeles.
The 878-room JW Marriott will be expanded by 755 rooms via a
new 38-story tower across the street. Two pedestrian bridges will connect the
two buildings.
A 350-room Hotel
Indigo is scheduled to open next year as part of Shanghai-based Greenland
Group’s $1 billion Metropolis mixed-use project about a block north of L.A. Live.
And about five blocks north of there, a 900-room
InterContinental hotel being redeveloped by Korean Air and Hanjin Group will
open in 2017 at the site of the old Wilshire Grand.
