Las Vegas Sands said the second phase of its Cotai Central district in Macau will open next month with the debut of the world’s largest Sheraton hotel.
The first tower of the 3,896-room Sheraton Macao will open on Sept. 20; second tower is due to open early next year. The property will have 53,000 square feet of meeting space.
Las Vegas Sands in April opened the world’s largest Holiday Inn and Conrad hotels as part of the project’s first phase.
Sands Cotai Central is the centerpiece of development on Macau's Cotai Strip, which is about 200 acres of reclaimed land linking Taipa and Colaone islands. Macau is about 40 miles southwest of Hong Kong and was controlled by Portugal until 1999.
Las Vegas Sands has invested more than $8 billion in its Macau projects and will ultimately develop more than 9,000 rooms across five hotels.
