Zemi
Beach House is the first new hotel to open on the Caribbean island of Anguilla in six years. The boutique hotel opened on Monday on Shoal Bay East on Anguilla’s East End.
The
70-room property will expand to 129 rooms by
the end of the year, with a mix of hotel rooms and luxury residences that can be
rented.
The
resort’s symbol is the three-point stone zemi, worshiped by the
Taino Indians, who believed it to be the dwelling place of the spirit.
Accommodations
range from deluxe rooms with ocean views to a three-bedroom penthouse with
terrace, kitchen and rooftop plunge pool.
Zemi
Beach House will offer five food-and-beverage options: farm-to-table
cuisine, Anguillan specialties, toes-in-the-sand dining, a Rhum Room and a
one-stop marketplace.
Facilities
include the Zemi Thai House Spa, a beach concierge, a kids’ club, a beach club,
two pools, tennis and a fitness center.
The general
manager is Markus Laahanen, formerly of the Tropicalia Resort in the Dominican
Republic; spa director is Jasmine Welsh, who held the same position at
Malliouhana, an Auberge Resort, on Anguilla; and director of sales and marketing is Sakari Malinen, formerly at three of AMResorts’ properties in Los Cabos.
Rates
at Zemi Beach House start at $699 per room, per night, double.
