G Adventures and National Geographic Expeditions are expanding their partnership to offer trips designed for families with children ages 7 to 17.

National Geographic Family Journeys with G Adventures will go on sale globally May 7 with the first departures beginning in early 2020.

The trips will be led by two specially trained G Adventure guides and will feature National Geographic experiences specifically designed for families.

G Adventures and National Geographic said the success of the small-group adventures program they launched in 2015 led them to "look at how they could revolutionize the family travel market, extending the reach of culturally immersive, small-group adventure holidays to appeal to children aged seven and above, as well as their parents and grandparents."

"This new program of trips is perfect for adventure-loving families who are looking to discover the world together," said Ben Perlo, U.S. managing director for G Adventures. "The itineraries have been developed from scratch to inspire travelers of all ages to experience each destination's unique advantages, from wildlife and conservation, to history and culture, plus exploration, photography and storytelling."

The family groups will be made up of an international mix of travelers, giving families the opportunity to connect with guests from around the globe, he said.

Rainer Jenss, president and founder of the U.S.-based Family Travel Association, said the partnership couldn't come at a better time.

"More and more parents are prioritizing experiences as a family over material possessions," he said. "They recognize the value of travel as an important part of their children's education and the role it plays in changing their relationship with their children for the better."
