When violence rocked parts of Mexico on Feb. 22, some G Adventures guests found themselves in the middle of it.

Around 9 a.m., while a group of travelers were heading to Guadalajara from Puerto Vallarta, their vehicle was stopped by what company spokeswoman Kimberly Greiner described as "unauthorized individuals on the highway."

Travelers and G Adventures staff vacated the vehicle. Then, the individuals set the vehicle on fire and used it as a roadblock, Greiner said.

"Numerous vehicle fires and incidents were reported across the state of Jalisco in the following hours," she said.

No members of the group or staff were injured. They are currently staying on a military base as G Adventures arranges their travel home.

The tour leader stayed with the group as G Adventures alerted embassies and family members, Greiner said.

This was the only G Adventures group impacted by cartel violence in Mexico, Greiner said. The tour operator canceled an upcoming trip in the Jalisco region. Otherwise, the company's Mexico trips are operating as normal.
