Intrepid Travel will add three new women's trips to its portfolio.
The operator will launch trips in Peru, Cambodia and Bhutan as part of its Women's Expeditions itineraries, following growing demand from female travelers. Women make up more than half of Intrepid’s customers, 77% of whom are traveling solo.
Erika Kritikides, the general manager of experiences at Intrepid, said women are driving travel.
"As we expand this range, we're intentionally choosing destinations where tourism can create meaningful economic opportunity for women," she said. "When women succeed in tourism, it strengthens families, communities and entire local economies. We remain committed to working closely with our local teams to support these women and advance gender equality in tourism."
The three new trips, which range from eight to 11 days, will support eight women-owned businesses, Intrepid said.
The eight-day Peru trip includes hiking the Chinchero to Urquillos route on an old Inca road to visit the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and Pumamarca. Hikers will be supported by female porters. Travelers will also attend an Andean healing ceremony led by a female shaman, partake in a chocolate-making workshop at a social enterprise that trains and employs vulnerable women and visit Machu Picchu.
The eight-day Cambodia itinerary starts in Phnom Penh and ends in Siem Reap. The trip features volunteering at Project-G, which provides health education and hygiene solutions to girls in rural Cambodia; a homestay in Sambor Prei Kuk; and visiting Daughters of Cambodia, a social enterprise for human trafficking survivors.
The 11-day Bhutan journey will take travelers from Thimphu to Paro. Itinerary highlights include hiking with an all-women crew, meeting the nuns at Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Nunnery and hiking up a cliff that leads to Tiger's Nest, the country's most famous monastery.
