CHICAGO -- Adventure travel Web site iExplore.com, which is partly owned by National
Geographic, began a travel agent commission program for some of its
tours.
The commissions of 10% to 15%, including overrides, are on
iExplore Exclusives, a line of about 25 products launched last
year.
The commissions are 10% for up to $50,000 in annual production,
12.5% for $50,000 to $100,000, and 15% for bookings of more than
$100,000.
The iExplore Exclusives product features flexible departure
dates and flexible group sizes. Itineraries range from Alaska
excursions to tours of Tanzania and Vietnam.
Air can be booked through iExplore.com, but it is not
commissionable.
Launched in February 2000, iExplore.com features some 3,000
trips from about 130 suppliers. Trips range from canal and river
cruises to rain-forest ventures.
The bulk of iExplore's consumer business is package tours
through third-party partners, and these are noncommissionable.
