ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The International Association of Amusement Parks
and Attractions will hold its 81st Annual Convention and Trade Show
from Nov. 16 to 20 in Atlanta.
More than 30,000 people, about 25% of whom are from abroad, are
expected to attend the show, which is being staged at the Georgia
World Congress Center and the Georgia Dome.
"The amusement industry continues to push the envelope in order
to fulfill the public's ever-increasing desire for innovative
thrills," said John Graff, president and chief executive officer of
the association.
Organizers expect the November session, featuring the latest in
rides, games, merchandise and food, to reap more than $1 million
from delegates buying the newest products and services.
In addition, attendees will have a chance to participate in as
many as 60 free workshops and seminars with titles such as:
Motivation LocomotionSignage Guideline SummitThe Future of Themed EntertainmentHow to Make All Guest Experiences EntertainingTeen PowerA three-part workshop series addressing crisis planning,
management and communications also is scheduled.
Delegates also can participate (for an additional fee) in a tour
highlighting food and beverage operations hosted by Six Flags Over
Georgia and a water park tour to White Water.
IAAPA's annual convention also serves as the platform for award
presentations honoring members for special achievements.
These include four categories for best exhibit; service awards
in five categories; Souvenir of the Year awards; Brass Ring awards
(for originality and creative excellence in marketing), and Spirit
of Excellence awards recognizing a facility's commitment to the
training and development of industry personnel.
The IAAPA membership includes owners and operators of amusement
parks, theme parks, water parks, zoos, family entertainment
centers, aquariums and attractions.
