JERUSALEM, Israel -- San Francisco travel attorney Alexander Anolik
advised travel agents to add Y2K notices to their consumer
disclosure notices.
Speaking here at the ARTA international conference, Anolik
suggested adding language to the effect that an agency "is not
responsible for disruptions of any kind stemming from Year
2000-related problems."
A sample consumer disclosure notice drafted by Anolik includes a
notification that the agency is not responsible for suppliers'
negligence or damage to the traveler caused by events outside the
agency's control, such as terrorist activities.
His sample notice also directs the client to the State
Department for travel safety information and the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention for medical information.
On other matters, Anolik stressed the need for agents to carry
errors and omissions insurance in an increasingly litigious
society.
He said agents cannot afford to waste time defending harassing
litigation, especially in the light of air commissions cuts.
