WASHINGTON -- The Commerce Department issued a notice requesting
applications for membership on the new U.S. Travel and Tourism
Promotion Advisory Board.
In February, Congress approved legislation -- signed into law by
President Bush -- that created the board, which will help guide a
$50 million marketing campaign designed to encourage inbound
tourism to the U.S.
According to the notice appearing April 23 in the Federal
Register, members of the board will serve until its charter expires
on April 1, 2005.
Members will be selected based on, among other things, "proven
expertise in promoting, developing and implementing advertising and
marketing programs for travel-related or tourism related
industries."
Board members receive no compensation.
Applications must be submitted by May 12.
