McGee Pulls Plates of Inactive Firm

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Travel agent arbiter William McGee revoked the Airlines Reporting Corp. accreditation of a California agency that made few sales and closed down yet wanted to keep its accreditation.

The agency, Global Travel LLC, of San Rafael, obtained ARC accreditation in January 1996 and sold 218 tickets since then, none since the fourth quarter of '96, according to McGee.

Global Travel attributed the lack of sales to the owner's illness. The agency said its printer was removed with ticket stock in it and that it has no plans to reactivate the business in the near future.

McGee said the closure of the business "is contradictory to the letter and spirit" of the ARC contract, and the loss of ticket stock when the printer was removed is evidence of further "neglect."

In another case, McGee rescinded a decision that would have revoked the accreditation of Asia America Travel & Trade Co. of Philadelphia.

Separately, McGee approved a settlement between ARC and Black Tie Travel Inc., doing business as Uniglobe Valley Travel, of San Jose, Calif. Under the terms, the firm agreed to stop using ARC ticket stock to issue tickets on US Airways or any other carrier that terminates its appointment.
