TIA okays tie-up with Travel Business Roundtable

As expected, the Travel Industry Association has approved a merger with the Travel Business Roundtable. The new group will be called the U.S. Travel Association, effective Jan. 1.

The TIA board unanimously approved the merger at its winter board meeting in Albuquerque, N.M., on Friday. TBR's board approved the merger at its annual meeting at the end of October.

The U.S. Travel Association will represent leaders from travel companies, state tourism offices, travel associations and convention and visitors bureaus.

The advocacy group will continue to provide research to its 1,800 members, operate the DiscoverAmerica.com travel and tourism website, and hold the annual International Pow Wow.
